My heart trembling, I noticed that I was being put into a dark, carton box. As I tried to scream for help, the fingers that were wrapped around the lid closed, and darkness fell around me.
Trying to breathe, I noticed that someone had opened up the box, and I was bathing in the light of the Christmas tree. Looking up, I noticed that all of the lights seemed to glow down on me. Suddenly a spark of hope and joy grew in me. As I lingered at that thought, I heard footsteps leading into the living room. In a flash, I lay down in my box, unmoving, unfeeling.I had observed the family that I was living with, and I noticed that sometimes they were full of love, and the next they screamed and raged at each other. When I watched their happy moments, I was saddened even more. My life here was a cracked rainbow with a pot of sadness at the end.
Waking up to the sun in my eyes was something that I always enjoyed, despite the yarn of dread that was always getting longer. This morning, as I looked outside of my box, I saw Grandma Sue talking to one of the little kids.
"You see that ornament over there?", she questioned.
" That was the first ornament that my grandma gave to me,", she said, memories flooding back to her.
" And now I will give it to you," she ended, her voice full of joy.
"But grandma", one of the youngsters replied.
"That ornament is faded, I want a sparkly new green one!" the boy requested.
As the grandma started to lose patience, her eyes lit up and she said, " Dear, you don't look at the faded color of the ornament, but you look at the memories that it brings back to you, and the value that it will always have in your heart," as she ended, the boys took me out of my brown carton box, and put me up on the Christmas tree.
I would always remember what the grandma said, and what an impact it had on my life.

Voice Planning
1. What is your object thinking? (ideas/story)
2. What is your object feeling? (emotions)
3. What reaction are you looking to create in the reader? (tone/word choice)
1.
· my object is thinking that she is unoved
· my story will be about an object that feels unloved and thinks that nobody likes her
· I think that I should make my story about a family that loves celebrating Christmas, except for one 6 year old boy.
· He thinks that Christmas is dull because he never gets any presents that he wants. Then he meets this other homeless family, and learns what Christmas it like for them. And then he likes Christmas after all.
2.
· my object is feeling very sad inside
· she also feels very empty and alone
· then she sees that a boy in the house that she lives in, is sad and not satisfied.
3.
· I am looking to create interest in the reader
· I am looking to create a different sense of what Christmas is about than the usual Santa Claus.
· I am looking to create a spark of happiness in the reader
